Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G highlight security and design features

By Kenn Anthony Mendoza

Tech giant Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G, two smartphones focusing on security and design upgrades.

Samsung boasted that the two smartphones feature the company’s security system Knox Vault, photography capabilities inspired by Galaxy’s flagship camera innovations, and a display that adjusts to users’ surroundings with Vision Booster.

According to reports, the Galaxy A phones are a lower-cost alternative to Samsung’s premium devices. Samsung did not mention the price for the two phones, CNET speculated that the phones to fall in the same price range as last year’s devices. The Galaxy A54 5G was priced at US$450.

The defining feature of the two phones is the Knox Vault. Android Police reported it is a combination of hardware and software to protect your device against tampering, viruses or cyberattacks, theft, loss, or human error.

It also protects device encryption keys, encrypting users’ private data stored in the device. Only a user with the correct lock screen credentials can access their data, even if the device is lost or stolen.

CNET reported this is the first time the security feature is available on the Galaxy A family. It was available on Samsung’s Galaxy S product line.

Both phones are packed with a 6.6-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 5,000-mAh battery but they differ in the camera hardware.

The A55 may take better pictures due to its AI image signal processing than the A35. It is unclear whether the A35 will have this feature.

According to Samsung’s release, the Galaxy A55 5G has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera, and a 32MP front camera.

The Galaxy A35 5G has similar camera hardware, but a slightly lower-resolution 8MP ultrawide camera and 13MP front camera along with the 50MP main camera and 5MP macro camera.

The press release did not include details on the phones’ design, but the Malaysian and Indian product pages suggest they have glass backs made with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus and IP67 water resistance.

Both phones will run an octa-core processor, but the release did not include more details.

“With the Galaxy A series, we are expanding our latest technologies to a wider audience so that more people can benefit from them,” said Samsung Electronics president and head of mobile experience business TM Roh.

“We are excited to open up even more possibilities on the Galaxy A series this year, including offering Samsung Knox Vault for the first time on this lineup. We’re proud to enable Galaxy A series users to safely and reliably enjoy outstanding mobile experiences.”
