Nissan Unveils New Metaverse Experience Highlighting Heritage and Safety

Nissan Motor Co. announced the introduction of a new metaverse exhibit named “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio” on March 7. 

This virtual experience is designed to showcase three of Nissan’s most iconic automobiles within immersive settings that reflect their historical contexts and interactive modules focused on driving safety. The launch aligns with the celebration of Nissan’s 90th anniversary to honor its legacy and promote safety awareness through innovative digital platforms.

Exploring Nissan’s Iconic Models in the Metaverse

The “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio” provides a unique blend of history and safety education. Users can explore detailed virtual environments featuring the Silvia Q’s S13, known globally for its drifting prowess; the Skyline 2000GTX-E, a tuner vehicle famed for its cultural significance in games and movies; and a 1950s-60s American diner and drive-in theater setting for a hands-on steering simulation.

These exhibits aim to engage participants with Nissan’s heritage while imparting important safety information, such as the impact of pedestrian clothing colors on visibility and the effects of multitasking on driving focus.

Developed in collaboration with researchers from Japanese universities, the experiences are accessible through the Meta Quest headset. This marks another step in Nissan’s exploration of virtual and augmented reality as tools for customer engagement and education.

This initiative is part of Nissan’s effort to update and expand its presence in the metaverse following the launch of its first virtual test drive in 2022 and the refresh of four existing metaverse worlds in December 2023. 

There has been a surge of interest in the AR and VR technology space, with the launch of the latest mixed-reality headsets by top tech companies, thus indicating a growing inclination towards immersive digital experiences.
