Google could bring a separate volume control for calls and notifications

The Android OS is known for having many features, some more obscure than others but one has been missing since the first version was launched nearly 15 years ago - a separate volume slider for calls and notifications.

According to 9to5Google, this will finally happen, as Google implemented an ADB command back in December.

The line in question is

adb shell device_config put systemui volume_separate_notification true

and it is about time for the feature to be released, either with QPR3 or Android 14 in the coming months.

The “Ring & Notification volume” slider will be split into two different sliders - one just for calls and another just for notifications. That way, users can still ignore calls without the need to turn down to 0 the notification sound or vice versa - hear the calls but ignore the various beeps and chimes.

Google updated the feature request in its issue tracker with the following: “The requested feature will be available in a future build.” It is highly possible the feature will be mentioned during the May 10 I/O, where Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, is likely to officially unveil Android 14 and to announce the launch date.
