Melbourne e-scooter trial extended Featured

By Gordon Peters

A trial of e-scooters in Melbourne has been extended by six months and private e-sooters have been legalised by the Victorian Government.

Following the Victorian Cabinet’s decision to extend the trial in Melbourne, Hugo Burt-Morris, General Manager at micromobility operator, Lime, said the trial has been a major success, with over 99.99% of its rides ending without a “reported incident, world-leading levels of ridership and demand, and deep community engagement”.

“Lime is proud of the work it has done to promote safe and responsible riding and understands the long term success of the program must be built on a foundation of safety.,” Burt-Morris said.

“We are committed to building on the success of the program and continuing to focus on safety, especially around footpath riding. Lime’s mission of building a future where transportation is shared, affordable, and carbon-free aligns with the City’s goal and we are excited to continue to invest in Melbourne for the long term.”

Burt-Morris said Lime has worked closely with the Department of Transport, local councils, other operators and local leaders to improve its service to meet community needs consistently.

“We’ve focused on safety across the City through hosting numerous First Ride Academy events, expanding participation in programs like our Lime Access equity pricing, free rides to vote through our Lime to the Polls initiative, supporting local events through designated parking areas, as well as educating our riders on safe riding habits and proper parking etiquette.

“We’re grateful to the riders of Melbourne who’ve taken over 2 million rides with Lime, as well as to Lord Mayor Sally Capp, the Department of Transport and our local city Council Members for embracing micromobility and expanding affordable and sustainable transport options to Melbourne residents. We look forward to continuing to serve Melbourne, helping new riders take their first trip, and the opportunity to expand to new Council areas.”

Burt-Morris also said the decision to legalise private e-scooters is a positive for the micromobility industry and is proof that the mode is “sustainable, safe, reliable and one that is here for the long term”, and he cites key aspects of the sucess of the trial including:

  • 99.99% of rides have ended without incident
  • Over 2 million trips have been completed in Melbourne since November 2018
  • Lime riders have travelled over 4 million kilometres in Melbourne during this time

ENABLE HYBRID CLOUD & REDUCE NETWORK LATENCY WHITEPAPER

Hybrid cloud promises to bring together the best of both worlds enabling businesses to combine the scalability and cost-effectiveness of the cloud with the performance and control that you can get from your on-premise infrastructure.

Reducing WAN latency is one of the biggest issues with hybrid cloud performance. Taking advantage of compression and data deduplication can reduce your network latency.

Research firm, Markets and Markets, predicted that the hybrid cloud market size is expected to grow from US$38.27 billion in 2017 to US$97.64 billion by 2023.

Colocation facilities provide many of the benefits of having your servers in the cloud while still maintaining physical control of your systems.

Cloud adjacency provided by colocation facilities can enable you to leverage their low latency high bandwidth connections to the cloud as well as providing a solid connection back to your on-premises corporate network.

Download this white paper to find out what you need to know about enabling the hybrid cloud in your organisation.
