丰田旗下零部件厂家丰田铁工与名古屋大学开启了开发植物纤维的合作，将从甘蔗近亲属的茎提取“纤维素纳米纤维（CNF）”，取代在汽车树脂产品中掺入的玻璃纤维。
按照规划，丰田铁工计划到2024年实现产品化，为温室气体减排贡献力量，而该产品未来主要的课题是降低成本。据了解，玻璃纤维的单价为约200日元/kg，而CNF为约2000日元/kg，是玻璃纤维的10倍，为此，丰田铁工和名古屋大学正在研究通过制造工艺从高粱高效分离CNF。
