Annoying Apple Music UI Gripe

Does anyone else find this totally annoying? In Apple Music when a song is playing full screen with album artwork showing the name of the song and the artist is shown. Intuitively when I click on the artist I expect to be taken to all songs by that artist. Instead it takes me to the album that the song in playing belongs to. Why? I would expect clicking on the name of the song to do that. Clicking on the song does nothing! it is so infuriating and puts me off using it. Such a strange decision to do this from a UX PoV. Maybe a minor gripe but its enough to make me use Spotify over Apple Music.

I prefer Apple Music’s UI to Spotify’s.

With Spotify, you have to hit the exact target area which I find very annoying. Depending on the length of the artist name and/or song title, it can be easy to accidentally end up on the album page when you wanted the artist page, and vice versa.

With Apple Music, I have a much larger tap target, and the pop up that appears and asks if I’d rather visit the artist page or album page is simple and makes sense.

This is just my personal preference though. I used Spotify for the last ten years and recently switched to Apple Music because I feel like Spotify’s design just continues to get worse while Apple Music’s continues to improve…especially on iOS 14.

Yeah Spotify isn't perfect either. But Apple Music just annoys me. I have all my own music loaded onto it and use it for that. That's because Spotify, for some bizarre reason, won't just let you shuffle all the songs from all your favourite artists. There's no easy way to do it apart from creating a playlist and dragging all the songs from all your favourite artists into it. With Apple Music I just hit songs and shuffle. So yeah both apps have flaws but leaning towards Spotify for streaming at the moment.

Gives you an option to go to artist page or go to album. Doesn’t bother me.

You can sort by artist to view all songs.

Or you can to go artist

Or you can search your library which shows all their songs, even shows all songs they’re featured on.

That has always been inconsistent for me. Sometimes it lets me choose to go to artist or album and sometimes it takes me straight to the album.
