ZTE’s World First Under-Display Selfie Camera Is Here

If you're sick of notches and hole punches, the ZTE Axon 20 5G has you covered.

ZTE under-display camera

Lately, there's not a lot changing in the world of smartphones. Foldables have been rather exciting to keep an eye on, but otherwise, we mostly see faster phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 Goes on Sale September 18

Samsung isn't teasing us anymore, as the company has made the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 official.

The next big innovation in smartphones appears to be under-display selfie cameras. ZTE has actually managed to get its hidden selfie camera ZTE Axon 20 5G to market before anyone else, as the device is available today.

What Does the ZTE Axon 20 5G Bring to the Table?

ZTE first announced the Axon 20 5G in September, and now the device is officially available for sale. Outside of the under-display selfie camera, it seems like a decidedly average smartphone in the lower mid-range.

If you look closely at the phone, you can see an odd-looking square at the top of the screen. This is where the selfie camera lives. If you use a dark wallpaper, it's hard to notice the screen's difference, but it stands out like a sore thumb if you use a white background.

The under-display selfie camera is tucked beneath a 6.93-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It also comes with a Snapdragon 765G processor and Adreno 620 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage.

While the under-display selfie camera is the main event, ZTE also included a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide shooter, a 2MP depth lens, and a 2MP macro camera on the back of the phone.

As for power, there's a 4,220 mAh battery with 30W fast charging, both of which are solid for a mid-range phone.

Keeping that display even busies, ZTE added an in-display fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone.

ZTE Axon 20 5G Price and Availability

As mentioned, the device is available for sale right now. You can get it from ZTE's website for $449, €449, and £419, depending on where you live. You will have to join the company's New Vision Club to get a purchase code, though.

Right now, the device is available in Europe, Asia, and The UK. The phone is available in the following countries: the UK, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Finland, Romania, France, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Sweden, Ireland, Ukraine, Korea, Thailand, Malay, Philippines, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

If you live in the US, you're out of luck with this particular phone. The company hasn't announced any plans to release the phone in North America.

To celebrate the phone's launch, the company is actually throwing in a pair of wireless earbuds with purchase.
