TikTok Unveils Annual Recap Feature: "Year on TikTok"

"Year on TikTok" lets you look back at all of the good times you had on TikTok throughout 2020.

TikTok's new "Year on TikTok" feature will have you reflecting on (or regretting) all of the time you've spent on TikTok in 2020. This entire year was full of dramatic ups and downs, which will be interesting to see summed up in your yearly recap on TikTok.

Revisiting Your Year on TikTok

With "Year on TikTok," the app invites you to check out a personalized highlight reel of all your best moments on the app.

TikTok announced the feature in a post on the TikTok Newsroom, which is the first of its kind for the app. The platform has been around for quite some time, but it never included a yearly recap feature until now. Other platforms, like Snapchat, Instagram, and Spotify, already offer users a way to look back at their year in review.

Your "Year on TikTok" will show you your favorite tracks on the app, most-used effects, and will even show you a reel of your favorite TikToks throughout 2020. You'll also get a chance to see how often you commented on and shared videos during the year.

If you're a TikTok veteran, the app will even assign you "vibes" based on the kinds of videos you've watched. But if you just recently joined the app, you'll only see a feed of this year's most popular videos on the app.

How to Watch Your "Year on TikTok"

You can check out your very own "Year on TikTok" recap by first downloading the latest version of the app.

After that, navigate to the "Year on TikTok" icon on your For You feed. Alternatively, you can also find your yearly highlights on the "Year on TikTok" banner on the Discover page.

TikTok also gives you the option to share your highlights. When you do, you'll receive a special 2021 badge that you can show off on your profile.

Although you won't have a personalized recap if you haven't been on TikTok long enough, you can still have fun checking out all of the TikToks that went viral in 2020.

An End to TikTok's Rough Year

2020 was a rough year for everyone, including TikTok. In between a pandemic and a chaotic presidential election, TikTok had to deal with a potential ban and was put under an immense amount of pressure to sell its US assets. Not to mention that the app was accused of being a national security threat.

Despite all of this, TikTok still pulled through as one of the most popular social media apps of the year. TikTok's persistence helped it get through 2020, and we'll likely see even greater growth in 2021.
