Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

Say what you want about Sony's design language for its smartphones, but you can't say it hasn't been a consistent design language throughout the past few years. And apparently it will remain so overall - the Xperia 1 VI is now rumored to keep the same design but change two rather significant things ahead of its probable release in May.

First, it won't have a 4K screen anymore. Sony is the only company that pushed 4K in smartphones and now it's rumored to finally be giving up on that - there was probably no point insisting any further since every other flagship device that sells better than the Xperia line doesn't have a 4K screen and no one cares.

Next up, and more noticeably, the Xperia 1 VI is said to also drop the tall cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio in favor of 19.5:9. Thus, it should be shorter and wider than its predecessor, as the concept images above try to show. This once again has been one of those Sony-only things that doesn't seem to have worked out, so if you were wondering when it would be gone, the answer seems to be - this year.

That is, of course, if this rumor pans out. There's a lot of logic to these rumored moves, but that doesn't necessarily mean the information is accurate. While we wait to see what's what, don't forget that a few days ago the RAM amounts for the Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 5 VI, and Xperia 10 VI also got leaked.

Thanks for the tip, Josip!
