Apple Music is going after Spotify Wrapped with a monthly recap of what you listened to most
Watch out, Spotify: Apple Music is coming for you.
Apple Music recently introduced a monthly version of its Replay that sums up listeners' favorites.
Spotify Wrapped, by comparison, is only available once a year.
Apple Music is turning up the heat in its competition with music streaming rival Spotify.
Apple Music Replay, which provides a summary of users' listening habits, is now available monthly — offering more frequent summaries compared to the yearly Spotify Wrapped.
Apple says you'll need to go to a website, replay.music.apple.com, and log in with your Apple ID to access your monthly stats. The summary tells you your top songs, artists, albums, playlists, genres, and stations based on your listening history, number of plays, and amount of time spent listening.
Spotify's highly popular Spotify Wrapped, on the other hand, is only available once a year.
In 2023, Spotify added several new elements to its recaps, including a "Sound Town" feature that matched users to a city in the world that has similar music taste, and a "Me in 2023" feature that matched users with one of 12 characters based on their listening habits. A "hypnotist," for example, listens to albums all the way through, while a "hunter" is more prone to skipping tracks.
But note that if you haven't listened to "enough music," you won't be able to see your Replay, Apple says. The company did not immediately respond to a request for clarification about how much a person would need to use Apple Music to be eligible to receive a Replay.
Apple Music Replay has previously been available at the conclusion of a calendar year, and is available in the app itself. Apple says the year-end recaps will continue.

Actually, it’s good for Spotify that Joe Rogan’s podcast is no longer exclusive
Spotify renewed its contract with podcaster Joe Rogan this weekend, but with a twist. After almost four years, "The Joe Rogan Experience" is no longer a Spotify-exclusive podcast. This might seem like a concession on Spotify's part, as exclusive deals have long been a part of the company's strategy.

Spotify now the No. 2 audiobook provider, behind Audible, hints at Daylist inspired-suggestions to come
Late last year, Spotify began offering 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening to its Premium subscribers in select markets, including the U.S. Now the company says the new service is the second-largest audiobook provider behind Amazon-owned Audible -- something Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said was notable "given how entrenched the legacy players are." During its Q4 2023 earnings call with investors, the company also offered a glimpse into how audiobooks are being consumed by Spotify customers, including by sharing insights that indicate the books are reaching a different set of listeners than on Audible or other platforms.

Spotify's podcast exclusive days are over as Joe Rogan's show expands to other platforms
Controversies and PR headaches weren't enough to dissuade Spotify from re-upping its agreement with podcaster Joe Rogan, whose show over the past couple of years drove divisions among music fans and artists alike and even prompted some big names, like Neil Young, to pull their catalogs from the streaming service. Regardless, the show remained popular enough to earn the top spot as users' most-listened-to podcast every year since coming to Spotify in 2020. Now, Spotify's relationship with the podcaster continues, as the company announced a new, multiyear agreement with Rogan, estimated at $250 million over its term, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Spotify follows Meta, YouTube and others by offering AUX, a service to connect brands and creators
Facebook, Instagram, Snap, YouTube and other social networking companies offer programs to connect creators with brands, and now Spotify is doing the same. While not necessarily a creator marketplace, the program has a similar aim -- it will facilitate connections between brands and emerging artists for various campaigns benefiting both parties. For Spotify, AUX represents another source of income, as well, as the company says brands can pay Spotify to leverage the new service.

Almost half of adults on TikTok have never posted a video, research shows
Adults on TikTok lean camera-shy, a new study from Pew Research Center suggests. A survey of 2,745 adults who use TikTok revealed that 48% of respondents have never posted a video, and a typical user hasn't even updated their bio. This concept is a bit outdated -- it was proposed in 2006, when YouTube was only a year old, and TikTok wouldn't launch for over a decade.
