据新京报 12 月 31 日报道，《失控》作者、未来学家凯文·凯利表示，大语言模型与通用智能没有任何相似之处，“事实上，我甚至认为通用智能这种东西根本不存在，是一个错误的观念。每种智能都非常特殊，非常具体，就像工具一样，我绝不认为我们现在拥有通用人工智能，将来也不会有。我们会继续创造许多种类的智能，大语言模型只是其中之一。它们擅长许多我们没预料到的事情，但不会适用于我们想要完成的一切。除了大语言模型，我们还需要其他种类的认知。”
