Robert Giammatteo is the new CFO & EVP of Arko

Robert Giammatteo has been appointed as the new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Arko Corp., effective from January 2, according to a press release issued on Thursday. Additionally, he will take on the role of CFO at GPM Investments, the company’s C-store arm.

Giammatteo will be succeeding Don Bassell, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the year and will continue in his position until the end of this year.

Bassell, while stepping down from his current role, will remain with the company until April 2024 to ensure a smooth transition. Arie Kotler, the Chairman, President, and CEO of Arko Corp, expressed gratitude for Bassell’s leadership over the years and acknowledged his continued support during this transition period.

With over 20 years of financial business experience, Giammatteo’s most recent role was as Executive Vice President, CFO, and Chief Transformation Officer at grocer Giant Eagle, which oversees the C-store chain GetGo Cafe + Market.

Prior to his tenure at Giant Eagle, Giammatteo held various finance positions at fashion retail company Ascena Retail Group, starting as Senior Vice President of FP&A and investor relations before becoming Executive Vice President and CFO. His previous experience includes roles at apparel companies VF Corporation and Limited Brands, along with over four years at General Motors’ OnStar.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining ARKO, Giammatteo highlighted the significant growth opportunities ahead, citing both organic initiatives and ongoing acquisition activities.

Kotler expressed confidence in Giammatteo’s leadership and extensive retail experience, anticipating substantial contributions to the company’s growth and expansion in the convenience store industry.
