Introducing the AI for Product Management Course

Over the course of the year, AI has dominated all the headlines in the tech industry. It is clear that regardless of where these advancements will take us, they will impact the way we work and interact as product people.

The rise in demand for AI skills and knowledge has been rife within the product community. As Claire Woodcock said in her keynote talk at #mtpcon London 2023, 80% of our peers aren’t confident about how to use AI. This is one of the key reasons why we have partnered with Pendo and Google Cloud, to create our new AI for Product Management Course.

The course explores AI’s place in product management and why product managers should view AI as a strategic tool, not a threat.

It covers core AI use cases throughout the product development life cycle, best practices for building AI-powered features, as well as real-world examples of companies leveraging AI in their products.

Once you take the course and pass the exam, you’ll earn an “AI for Product Management” digital badge (perhaps you can add it to your collection of badges from our other three courses). Ready to get started with the AI for Product Management Course? Sign up here—the course is usually $149, but we’re offering it for free for everyone.

Course details and what to expect

The AI for Product Management Course is centred around two key ways product managers should think about AI.

The first way is as a tool to help you build products and improve internal processes. When it comes to utilizing AI in their day-to-day work, the use cases for product managers are near-endless (and growing).

In the course, we identify three categories to summarise AI’s place in building products:

  • Data analysis
  • Experimentation
  • Communication

The second way product managers should think about AI is as a capability you can build into your product in the form of AI-powered features and functionality. In this way, the value of AI shifts to the end user, as they benefit from features that help them accomplish their jobs to be done faster and more effectively.

Finally, a common theme throughout the course is changing our approach to AI, and welcoming it as a key asset in our product practices instead of seeing it as a threat. As Jing Hu, Senior Global Product Manager at Just Eat, says, in a recent guest article for Mind the Product: “As we keep an eye on the burgeoning field of AI and its potential impact on our roles, let’s also celebrate the distinctively human skills we bring to our craft.

“The era of AI is not a threat but an opportunity for us to level up, to combine the best of human intuition and AI precision, creating products that are more useful, intuitive, and delightful than ever.”

Still quizzical about what the course will be like? Here’s a clip from Module Three, where Nichole Mace (VP of Product Growth at Pendo) walks through how to form the right future product strategy tied to AI.

Here’s what else you can expect from the course:

  • 6 modules covering AI use cases and best practices, including a module led by Mind the Product’s Adam Thomas, Product Lead
  • 2 hours of engaging, instructor-led videos
  • Curriculum developed by product and digital experience leaders
  • An optional exam to check your knowledge and earn a badge
