JULIE HYMAN: Women-owned businesses represent more than 41% of the nation's total. That's according to the US Census Bureau. However, the impact of women owned businesses diverged significantly across the US. Some states show these enterprises flourish, other states still have room for improvement.

Here with more on key drivers to foster growth for women-owned businesses, we got Wells Fargo senior lead business growth strategy consultant Val Jones. Val, you guys just came out with a list of the states that are best and worst for women-owned businesses. And I see at the top of the list here, we've got New York, North Carolina, Georgia, whereas at the bottom, Wyoming, Nebraska, Alaska. What differentiates them? What makes a state good for a woman in business and what makes it not good?

VAL JONES: Yeah. Great. Well, thanks so much for having me here. Happy to talk about our findings from the report. I would say the common denominator for the top states is, first of all, a economically sound foundation. These are states where there's typically a lot of growth. There's a lot of support for businesses. And we see that as a foundation.

But in terms of women-owned business, what we do see is a difference maker are special programs, grants, and incentives for businesses to support women-owned businesses in these areas. And we found that, especially through the COVID pandemic and as we are in this phase of COVID pandemic, that was really the difference maker.

After US, inflation focus turns to China

As investors digest the market and policy implications of this week's U.S. inflation figures, Asia's focus on Friday turns to Chinese producer and consumer price inflation, and to what extent they indicate a cooling of wider deflationary pressures. Going by Wall Street's decline on Thursday, sparked by a spike in long-dated U.S. bond yields following a weak 30-year auction, the mood will be one of caution, at best. China's PPI and CPI top a packed Asian economic calendar that also includes Chinese trade data, third quarter GDP and an interest rate decision from Singapore, unemployment from South Korea, and wholesale inflation from India.
