Apple this week shared a new action-packed video called "The Great Escape" on its YouTube channel in Turkey. The video, set in Istanbul's historic Grand Bazaar, was shot entirely on the iPhone 14 Pro with the use of additional accessories and software.

"The Great Escape" has received over three million views on YouTube since being uploaded on Sunday, showing the continued popularity of Apple's long-running "Shot on iPhone" marketing campaign. The video highlights several camera features available on the iPhone 14 Pro, such as Macro mode, Cinematic mode, and Action mode.

At this point, customers interested in purchasing an iPhone 14 Pro should consider waiting for the iPhone 15 Pro, which is expected to launch in September. Various camera improvements are expected for the next iPhones, including an improved sensor from Sony and a periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max that will enable up to 5-6x optical zoom.

This is pretty awesome but no one would do that in real life.

That's why action movies exist...to take you to a place never seen in real life. James Bond movies... just as an example.

This is also the reason why fine print on the bottom of every commercial involving action says "Professional driver on a professional course or do not attempt at home."

iPhone 14 Pro Camera is amazing! It continues to amaze me every single day.
Hopefully it will inspire young future film makers' creativity to make movies.

Similar to how a 13 year old Steven Spielberg in 1962 made his first action movie making use of his dad's Super 8 film movie camera and using neighborhood kids as actors.

Is Apple encouraging people to run from the law? 😱 (joking)

That video is excellent, and a way better soundtrack than many of the "American" promo videos done lately.

Pro camera but no “pro” or manual mode.
Did the above Turkish action movie suffer as a result?

I still forget to tap into RAW for photos, and the ultra stabilized video when doing motorsports stuff on the side. Proving to be a good camera even when I can't tap into my R5 or other cameras.

Naw...

I'm keeping this.

BTW, I enjoyed the short film - thanks, Apple!

Selecting RAW for photos should be sticky. At least it is on my 14PM.

I never turn it off on mine.

Would you buy a camera like a red that you can’t change any of the settings? Auto mode only?

It depends on your camera settings. Settings->Camera->Preserve Settings and the toggle Apple ProRAW.

There are a host of 3rd party applications for that. Personally happy they didn't go hog wild like Samsung and cram in a ton of features to confuse the app.

Prefer the way Apple and Google (Pixel) keep things simple but can get more advanced if needed with another app.

Honestly agree.

I am used to big files due to my Photography work (I am sure you are in a similar situation) and have plenty of storage. The extra data adds up, but so nice to go back to photos (years later) with all of that extra data to edit / play with.

You might not realize that a Red is a true professional camera.

And that an iPhone Pro is not - the "Pro" moniker simply being a label to differentiate it from a regular iPhone. One doesn't need to be a professional film maker to purchase an iPhone.

Great video. Probably the first I've seen where I felt the camera was commercial-grade.

Yeah... I never know when I make a photo if it will be worthy (or not) of subsequent post processing. Or initially it may seem ho-hum, but a year or two later I might feel differently.

My iPhone certainly doesn't work that well in low light? Maybe only in ProRes?

What I wish you could do is take every photo RAW, but choose to easily toss the raw later on and just keep the normal HEIF file. They take up a lot of space, and I only really want the RAW in situations where the regular photo needs severe tweaking to look good.

The Apple Photos app really suffers from that typical Apple condition where the app is 95% of the way there but that last 5% is frustrating and they have no intentions of ever fixing it.

Another feature that's missing in that 5% is being able to "stack" photos. If you take a burst on your iPhone the photos will be stacked, but you can't take a series of existing photos and stack them. Why the freaking hell not, Apple? Aperture had this, and the functionality is 99% of the way there in Photos!
