Galaxy S24 Might Not Feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; Prepare for a Major Disappointment!

Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Galaxy S23 series had a fairly good start. And even with some setbacks, it is still going strong. This major success of the series makes many of us wonder what Samsung has in store for the Galaxy S24 series. Well, even though we have just entered the Q2 of 2023, rumors about the next flagship series have already started to roll in.

Previously, we came to know that the Galaxy S24 series will have a major redesign. And now, a rumor regarding the chipset of the flagship phones has been getting a lot of attention. However, unlike the previous rumor, this one might have you in distress.

Galaxy S24 Series Might With Exclusively Feature Exynos 2400

The rumor comes from a news outlet that recently talked about the Galaxy S23 FE. And that news was also pretty disappointing. Nonetheless, this time, the news outlet shed light on the chipset that the Galaxy S24 series might come with. According to the outlet, Samsung is currently working on the Exynos 2400, and the chipset will debut with the S24 phones next year.

Samsung Exynos x AMD Radeon

No matter how good the rumor sounds, you should take it with a grain of salt. The reason behind that is that Qualcomm and Samsung signed a deal back in 2022. According to that deal, Samsung will have to stick with Qualcomm chips for Galaxy flagships even if the Korean firm manages to bring out something better.

We have already seen the deal in action with the Galaxy S23 series. All the phones came with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy SoC. And unlike the Galaxy S22 series, there is no other variation of the phones available in other regions. This deal is enough to make us believe that the Galaxy S24 will come with a Snapdragon chip.

Gizchina News of the week

However, according to the news publication, Samsung will make the Exynos 2400 enter mass production by November. This timeline pretty much clashes with Snapdragon’s usual timeline of debuting a next-gen SoC into the market. And as the chipset will be mass-produced, the news outlet believes that it could end up in the Galaxy S24 phones.

But What About the Deal?

Ideally speaking, Samsung would do nothing wrong by using its in-house chip to power the next-gen flagships. However, for the user, it is bad news as Exynos chipsets do not have a good track record. In fact, one of the reasons why Samsung went full-in on Snapdragon for the Galaxy S23 series is because of the unreliable performance of the Exynos chips.

Looking back, the Exyos 9820, 990, 2100, and, most importantly, 2200 were all notorious for delivering sub-par performance when compared with the counterparts of Snapdragon. Users with those phones flooded the forums with complaints. And the major setback is that the Exynos chipsets do not even make the Galaxy flagships feel like flagships anymore.

So, if Samsung indeed wants to integrate Exynos 2400 into the Galaxy S24 series, it needs to have a winning formula at hand. If the Exynos 2400 can not even closely compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Korean firm should simply ditch its current plans. Instead, it should do exactly what it did with the S23 series, make one version of all the phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

But, yes, Samsung’s plan regarding developing its own mobile GPU did leak recently. And that sheds light on what the Korean firm actually wants to do with its next-gen Exynos chipsets. Maybe, we will get a hint of that with the Pixel 8 series, as it will feature Tensor G3 based on Exynos 2300.
