Experts reveal why young people don’t like to buy iPhones anymore

iPhone

In a recent research report, the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the best – selling mobile phones in China for 2022. However, a new report claims that young people in China do not buy iPhones anymore. So, the conclusion is that iPhone sales may be good but young Chinese buyers do not have much interest. According to Apple’s financial report for Q1 of the fiscal year 2023, revenue from the iPhone was $65.775 billion. This is an 8% decrease from $71.628 billion in the same period last year. Also, its net revenue in Greater China was $23.905 billion. In comparison with the $25.783 billion in the same period last year, this is a 7% year-on-year decline.

Gizchina News of the week

Luo Hao of the School of Economics and Management at Nanchang University, said that whether it is the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, or Max, compared with other rivals’ goods on the market, its competitive advantages, such as technology, are no longer visible. “As an improved version of the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 hasn’t advanced much, therefore the consumer experience and sentiment aren’t great.”

iPhones are not popular among young users in China

According to Luo Hao’s analysis of the spending patterns of young people in Greater China, there are indeed cases when young people are not keen on buying iPhones. This is in relation to the fall in the desire of young people to purchase an Apple phone.  He thinks that one major aspect is that today’s youth, particularly those born in the 2000s, has a different point of view on spending than those born in the 1980s and 1990s. “They are more realistic, and we have also taken note of these post-2000s buying habits. They have popularized several domestic brands, in contrast to those born in the 1960s and 1970s who revere foreign companies”.

According to a college student, mobile devices are more about social media and app browsing features and they prioritize memory and cost efficiency. He thinks there is no need to spend this money because the price of an Apple phone today may be used to purchase a number of other brands’ cell phones.
