在普铁时代，合肥是个被遗忘的角落，但在高铁时代，合肥迅速翻身，成为一个区域性乃至全国性的高铁中心枢纽，规模还在不断扩大。
作为京港高铁合安段、合新高铁安徽段的共用站，合肥西站的建设最近迎来新进展，混凝土结构全部完成，站房钢结构屋盖桁架进入全面施工阶段。
合肥西站于2021年10月15日开工建设， 车站总规模为8台18线，站房总建筑面积约80000平方米。
车站位于安徽省合肥市蜀山区，是京港高铁上的主要客站，填补了合肥市西部片区大型铁路枢纽的空白，有利于进一步扩大合肥的区域影响力。
