What to expect at the 'Smart Data Fabrics' event: Join theCUBE Feb. 22

These days, businesses are awash with data — and the demand for that data is extremely high, with smart devices, domain experts, ecosystem partners and many others requiring access simultaneously. That creates some significant challenges for organizations.

It’s also creating significant demand in the market. The data fabric market is expected to grow from $1.6 billion in 2022 to $6.2 billion by 2027, according to a recent forecast. How might organizations adapt to these modern data challenges, and how can smart data fabrics play a role in solving them?

“There’s tremendous pressure on digital transformation and modernization of our businesses and certainly in the face of volatility, whether it be a global pandemic, whether it be geopolitical volatility,” said Scott Gnau, global head of data platforms at InterSystems Corp., during a keynote presentation at Global Summit 2022. “The best way we can all be successful is to have all of the information that we need available to us at the right time to make those decisions, especially in the transformation zone.”

During the “Unlocking the True Potential of Data With Smart Data Fabrics” event on Feb. 22, theCUBE industry analyst Dave Vellante will talk with InterSystems experts about the company’s plans to solve modern data challenges, including its plans to utilize smart data fabrics to help solve those challenges. (* Disclosure below.)

The stakes at play

Whether an organization is focused on financial services, healthcare, the supply chain, logistics or countless other fields, over the past year they have likely made data management a key focus. For example, take health and patient care in particular. In January of last year, research from Sage Growth Partners, commissioned by InterSystems, revealed some illuminating statistics.

Hospitals, and healthcare organizations face many data challenges, including a growing number of disparate data sources and erroneous and siloed data in fragmented repositories, according to the research. Forty-three percent of IT staff time is spent on data extraction and harmonization, and cutting that time in half could solve these organizations nearly $1.6 million in three years, the report said.

Companies like IBM have also embraced the move toward developing intelligent data fabrics. The multinational technology corporation has often spoke of its benefits, being able to unlock new insights from unified data so as to democratize trusted data usage across more people.

Solutions emerge

In a time of significant macroeconomic challenge, there’s no certain playbook as companies seek to establish a digital business. But InterSystems believes its approach to these challenges is unique relative to other data management solutions.

As a part of his recent talk, Gnau said that smart data fabric is not a technology, but a framework to think about data and integrate data assets to benefit one’s business.

“This is not just, ‘Hey, I’m moving my data warehouse to the cloud,’ or any of those things. It really is a new way to think about how to integrate, manage, leverage and get tremendous value from your data assets,” he said.

It’s what InterSystems calls “data democratization.” For example, in financial services, 49% of respondents to a recent study by WBR Insights and commissioned by InterSystems said that creating a single, consistent representation of data by breaking down silos was a top priority.

Other specific use cases and insights, along with a demo to show how the concepts will be practically applied, will be a part of the “Unlocking the True Potential of Data with Smart Data Fabrics” event
