VR/AR or UI/UX?

While VR/AR apps and elements of VR/AR are taking advantage of the market, UI/UX experts start to wonder if this is a time to learn new skills.

Mainly, VR started to become highly popular due to the Meta and Oculus, which make training and personal development for people easier. Moreover, we’re waiting for the Apple Glasses to be released, this definitely will bring the industry upside down. At the same time, we use AR technologies daily while using various masks on Instagram and use filters on Snapchat, this has already made us get used to augmented reality.

Another strong take on AR/VR trends in technology is fashion apps. Numerous brands, like Ukrainian DRESSX or mobile apps launched by GUCCI or Adidas, made it possible to try anything online before buying it from the store. Analysts were predicting the growing use of mobile apps for fashion, however, now exactly e-commerce seems to be the most focused on AR/VR technologies.

Another industry is health tech. When doctors and nurses need to try their skills, there is nothing better than VR technologies or AR, where they can use various programs and try making operations online. This can significantly increase skills and improve service in Medtech. Not even talking about the sphere of self-care and fitness, which becomes centered around VR.

If You Should Switch?

Despite the fact, various industries require more and more AR/VR from designers, this never means you should give up on classic UI/UX design.

There is no need to switch to AR/VR and learn how to design with them if you:

  • don’t work, especially with e-commerce;
  • don’t specialize in fashion;
  • MedTech and education are not two key niched you’d like to work with.

In that case, you can improve UI/UX, since not all companies may afford AR/VR apps for themselves and not many are ready to introduce high-tech features for their clients. Good-working UX/UI will hardly lose popularity next several decades, however, the average monetization of the market will start to fall compared to the AR/VR interfaces income.
