Honda ends China production of Acura vehicles after sluggish sales
GAC, a manufacturing partner of Honda in China, said on Monday that its joint venture with the Japanese automaker will continue to provide after-sales services to local owners of Honda’s premium brand Acura, as the brand’s Chinese website was no longer online. Last April, the two companies announced plans to stop building and selling locally manufactured Acura-branded vehicles in China from 2023, adding that the brand’s resources will be reallocated to Honda’s China-only e:N EV lineup. Sales of Honda’s vehicles under the Acura marque declined 41% year-on-year to 6,554 units in China in 2021 after 15 years of operations, as local Chinese electric carmakers such as Nio gained momentum in the premium segment.
