Thanks @mikefnz & @LuK1337
I tried going from 18 to 20 but it failed (not the fail that can be ignored).
I think I'll flash 19 and then 20, rather than do a fresh install of 20.
I would just do a clean install to 20 but see if the boss has any expert advice

Ok, I tried going directly from 18 to 20 again and it worked flawlessly!!
I don't know why it failed the first time so I tried again, and it just worked. All my data intact, and on first boot, everything worked exactly as it did before I updated.

Does the firmware and everything seem like it's at the correct version? I was considering going from 18.1 directly to 20 myself, and I saw that the 19 upgrade includes all the firmware needed, but hadn't heard about 20 including it as well.

The official versions of lineageos all have problems with safetynet and that is normal:

SafetyNet

What it is, and how it affects you

Magisk, Safetynetfix and Hidepropsconfig.
Passes Safetynet and all banking & Gpay work fine.

If you want to keep your Magisk configuration when upgrading from 19.1 to 20, this is how it works:
  1. Download Lineage OS and extract the zip file
  2. Create a patched boot image:
    -> payload-dumper-go -p boot payload.bin
-> copy boot.img to smartphone, open Magisk, select Magisk install > Select file and patch
    -> copy /sdcard/Downloads/magisk_patched-XXX.img to PC
  3. Follow the official upgrade instructions up to and including step 6 or 7. Do not do any (!) reboot for now!
  4. Select Advanced > Enable ADB
  5. adb reboot bootloader
  6. fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-XXX.img
  7. fastboot reboot

I was able to install LOS 20 successfully. However, Playstore is not working. I install the ARM64 version as suggest (prior to the first reboot of LOS as suggested in the installation instructions) and also tried to install it after first boot. In both cases, I am getting a message "You are offline check your connection or get a notification when you're back onlin". However, I am connected to internet. I have tried this over WIFI as well as over the mobile network.

Can someone please help me with addressing this issue?

Thank you

any issues to know about before flashing.with major OS builds i tend to wait a month or two before flashing to make sure all bugs most of them have been ironed out.

Allow network access in playstore settings (hold playstore icon and choose "app info"

Been out of the game for a while. Really liking this ROM after being stock for about 2 years. Can anyone run me through how to get MAGISK up and running?

Hello, great to see Android 13

I've got some Questions,

Will Future Updates happen like they did in Stock? Like a to b or b to a or will I have to do it with the PC/Sideload?

Is there a way to tune up Volume while recording a Video or a Voice chat without root?

Is there AOD somewhere?

Will Face Unlock come with later Updates?

Thanks in advance and have a nice and healthy 2023

Updates are via the official Lineage updater. Easy, even with Magisk.
For other questions; not issues for me so others can respond.

Got it, quick question and it's probably stupid but better safe than sorry. He says follow the upgrade instructions including 6 and 7 but do not reboot. I just finished step 6 but step 7 is saying reboot to recovery in order to install GAPPS. Do I reboot to recovery or just run another sideload command? Sorry if this is stupid, I just don't want to mess it up.

No worries 👍 Better safe than sorry.
Yes, you reboot to recovery and then continue from step 4 to flash the boot.img you patched.
