#Bluish Spots# Please Check the screen of your MacBook Pro 2016, 2017, 2018

Hi guys,

I noticed that there is a common display defect of MacBook Pro with the new model.
Open a pure white page and you can see there are some bluish spots, patches, or areas.

It is not a rare case, and a lot of people don't realise it yet. Hope more and more people report the problem to Apple.

I have this display problem, and it is the second time the problem occurs. The first screen change was in the 13th months after purchase. The second time I found the problem was 3 months after the change.

My MacBook Pro 15'' 2017: Before the screen change: After 3 months, the problem occurs again:

My collegue had similar issue: he got a warranty replacement and the serviceman told him that the display was somehow badly glued. I have seen this problem also here on MR, but it doesn't seem to be that common.

I would add that on you multi choice selection there should be an option of “Don’t have issue”, to be a well rounded survey. I don’t have the issue so I can’t contribute or see the survey results of how common the issue is among Macrumor members

My work-issued 2017 has this problem (but my personal 2018 seems safe for now). It’s not easy to spot at first, but becomes quite evident once you notice.

Got 4 of these at work with different people, one 2018 and three 2017s, and haven’t seen the issue yet. I replaced the screen on one of them because of a crack but haven’t seen it on the new screen either.

The same problem on MacBook Pro 2016. Appeared after 18 months of using. I noticed it a couple days ago

Hi guys I have macbook pro 2016 13" no touchbar and after 2 year I have now just noticed blue spots they have appeared in the middle of the screen. I still have the warranty so i will try to see if they cover it.

Does your friend have a report on the issue/statement from the serviceman or is there a way he could get one? It would be a step closer to providing evidence of a factory issue.

I have had a similar issue on my 2018 MacBook Pro 15" that became noticeable in December 2018, brought it in in January and they replaced my display, no issues since. From the photos posted in this thread, it looks very much like it's the same issue.

Well, that report stated "manufacturing defect of the display assembly" (translated from Czech). He also got a new keyboard, because of the sticking keys.

I have same problem. MBP 15' 2016, bought it in 2017, so now i am out of warranty. It's really sad.

That sucks. FYI, you might want to check if your display has any signs of the anti-reflective coating coming off, and (if not) keep an eye out if it happens in the future. Even small signs of "staingate" may make the machine eligible for the 4-year anti-reflective coating replacement program, which replaces the entire display and therefore should eliminate this problem. May or may not happen, but if it does, you may want to jump at the opportunity.

The blue spot is getting larger

Noticed exactly this on my 2018 15in mbp on Friday; taking it in for a check tomorrow. I’m not sure how long it’s been there - it’s not obvious except on a plain light background, but once it’s seen it can’t be unseen... and a £3k laptop should have a perfect screen after 6 months...

Edit: took it to apple today and straight away the genius agreed. It’s now in for a screen replacement on warranty.

My initial vote purpose was to see the correlation between the problem occurrence and different macbook models, so there is no option for "No problems". After added "no problems", the vote makes no sense any more. It can reflect neither the failure rate nor the correlation I previously wanted.

The plausible solution maybe is to clear the previous vote, and replace it simply by two options "have the problem" or "no problem", noticing people that vote only when you have new macbook pro models, becauses it seems the problem is only for new models.

You might want to consider older units as well. I seem to remembering people posting issues with them. People used also stated a preference for one panel manufacturer versus another (such as Samsung vs. LG)

Also, I think this is an industry wide issues since Apple and other laptop manufactures use panels created by other companies and sometimes use the panels from different manufacturers on the same product. You can find plenty of threads if you google "Laptop color splotches"

I had a 2015 15" MBP which was fine for 3yrs. replaced it with a 2018 15" MBP in July 2018. It developed a blue patch right in the centre of the screen in October 2018, sent the machine away for warranty repair and got it back with a new display.

As of now (April 2019) its happening again (4th time), started to see the bluish tinge in the middle exactly the same as before. Definitely something not right with them. Never had this in the 3yrs I had with the 2015 model.

I've had similar experience. Now on a third display, and second logic board. There has gotta be something up with the backlights in these displays.

I had a backlight issue on my MacBook Pro 2017 and it appeared 2 weeks after the warranty expired and Apple refused to repair it for free, so I was really furious about it. Today I saw the same issue on my MacBook Pro 2018. Really disappointed, to be honest.
