Tesla’s Shanghai factory to take extended break in January: report
Tesla intends to operate its Shanghai factory for 17 days in January with an extended break from Jan. 20 to Jan. 31 during the Chinese New Year holidays, a move that could significantly reduce its output, according to an internal document seen by Reuters. The development comes against the backdrop of a surge in omicron cases in China, following the easing of the country’s Covid-19 restriction measures earlier this month, which have disrupted the operations of many local businesses. The US automaker, capable of producing around 22,000 electric vehicles per week at its Shanghai plant, is idling production starting Dec. 24 through the end of the month in the face of softening demand.
