In the summer of 2012, I landed my first networking role managing my first large network. The customer relied on Wi-Fi like their life depended on it.

As months went by, I spent time getting used to the Cisco 4400 WLC. I began my search for resources that would help me understand how to manage and deploy a Cisco wireless network.

The Cisco documentation was there but it wasn’t an easy read. Without a lab environment, I was afraid to make changes.

My confidence built up as I found resources from Keith Parsons and Blake Krone. Their blogs and podcasts led to the start of my specialization in Wi-Fi.

The Impact of Blogs and Podcasts

Because of their content, I quickly learned I was doing Wi-Fi incorrectly. Looking back at those installations, I would have changed everything.

After listening to every single podcast about Wi-Fi I still wanted to consume more content. That’s when I decided to dive into it and start my own documentation through blogging and podcasting.

Some of the content was for my own reference. It’s funny to find your own blog in the Google search results and I’m grateful for my own documentation

Starting the Clear to Send podcast really propelled my knowledge and what I learned was shared with others.

I’m humbled to be nominated for Content Contribution of the Year. It encourages me to keep writing, recording audio, and creating videos if it means I can help even one person feel that they’ve learned something useful and made their work days better.
