Linux exFAT Programs v1.2 Allows Repairing Corrupted Filesystems

In addition to the exFAT Linux kernel driver for supporting Microsoft's exFAT file-system on Linux, in user-space is "exfatprogs" providing the various utilities for interacting with this file-system popular on SD/SDCX storage and flash drives. The exfatprogs 1.2 release today brings fsck.exfat support for repairing corrupted exFAT file-systems on Linux.

The exFAT Linux kernel file-system driver has been working out well and continues seeing routine work with new kernel versions. The exfatprogs 1.2 release today for these exFAT user-space programs is the first new version in nearly one year.

With exfatprogs 1.2, the fsck.exfat utility is now capable of repairing corruptions to an exFAT file-system. The fsck utility for exFAT can repair corrupted dentry sets, corrupted root, and other common corruption. Prior to v1.2, fsck.exfat would only check consistency but not actually repair corrupted file-systems. Another new feature is exfat2img as a program to dump metadata of an exFAT file-system.
