Swedish fintech Klarna is best known for its buy-now, pay-later services through which users can purchase items upfront and pay back within 30 days, without interest or fees. It has partnerships with big brands across Europe and the US such as Shopify, H&M, Macy's, and ASOS among others. 

Founded by Sebastian Siemiatkowski in 2005, Klarna was at one point Europe's most valuable startup with a valuation of $45.6 billion. That took a steep plunge to $6.7 billion after its latest $800 million funding round in July this year. The company also cut around 700 jobs, joining other tech firms and startups in mass layoffs. Siemiatkowski pinned the layoffs down to a "a tragic and unnecessary war in Ukraine, a shift in consumer sentiment, a steep increase in inflation, a highly volatile stock market and a likely recession."

Despite this, the company still has around 5,000 employees, and 150 million active consumers.

Insider has analyzed Klarna's disclosures for foreign labor hires to the US between 2019 and 2022, which show the firm is willing to pay six-figure salaries for top talent. Some caveats: This data doesn't include additional stock awards or bonuses and only applies to foreign talent hired to work in the US. 

The data shows one senior commercial manager at the company earned $350,004 in base salary, while a senior solutions engineer was offered $225,000.
