Here’s What’s New in the Latest Windows 7 Update

Windows 7 is no longer getting updates, unless your device is part of a company that has subscribed to Microsoft’s ESU program.

A new monthly rollup is now available for Windows 7, as said, only for devices who are registered to receive updates with ESU.

KB5015861 includes several important fixes, including for an issue that prevented users from connecting to the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. More specifically, the software giant says that in some cases, the host device might lose the connection to the Internet whenever a client connects.

In other words, while the hotspot is created correctly, once a single device connects to the host to access the Internet, the connection is lost on Windows 7 devices.

The company says it has resolved this bug, as well as several other glitches that are impacting companies still running Windows 7 on their fleets.

No new known issues

“Addresses a known issue that might prevent you from using the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. When attempting to use the hotspot feature, the host device might lose the connection to the Internet after a client device connects. Addresses a known issue in which Windows Servers that use the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) might be unable to correctly direct Internet traffic. Devices which connect to the server might not connect to the Internet, and servers can lose connection to the Internet after a client device connects,” the software giant says.

When it comes to known issues, there’s no new bug this month, but Microsoft warns that for computers that aren’t configured in the ESU program, this update would just fail to install.

“After installing this update and restarting your device, you might receive the error, "Failure to configure Windows updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer", and the update might show as Failed in Update History,” it says.
