The 2022 MacBook Air brings more power to Apple's most portable laptop, but also a brand-new design featuring MagSafe charging, better audio, and upgrades the screen. All of this elevates the MacBook Air, but a few accessories can still go a long way to add more features and capability.
While the two Thunderbolt ( USB-C ) ports are powerful and versatile, basic tasks, like uploading photos from an SD card or connecting to a monitor, often still require a large hub or smaller dongles. A wireless keyboard and mouse help Apple's most portable laptop work more like a desktop. Finally, the newly enhanced audio jack will go unnoticed without a pair of high-impedance studio headphones.
If you're eyeing Apple's latest laptop, consider these MacBook Air accessories for added versatility.
An external storage drive
The 2022 MacBook Air can be configured with up to 2TB of storage. But, you can save space and money with a Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C compatible external storage drive that will quickly back up files with Time Machine.The SanDisk Professional G-Drive SSD is one of the fastest external drives that we have tested. A multiport adapter or docking station
While charging no longer takes up a USB port, the 2022 MacBook Air has just two Thunderbolt 4 (USB 4) ports. MacBook Airs with the upgraded 10-core GPU will ship with a new dual power adapter with two USB-C ports. That means you don't have to find a second wall adapter or use up one of the two ports to charge a second device. If you buy the basic MacBook Air, you can still pick up this product from the Apple Store.
A Touch ID keyboard
Like the previous generation, the 2022 MacBook Air has Touch ID — a fingerprint sensor for skipping passwords and making secure payments — built into the keyboard. Unlike the MacBook Air keyboard, the Apple Magic Keyboard has a full number pad for a complete desktop experience. If you don't mind skipping the Touch ID, a wireless mechanical keyboard, like the Logitech G915 TKL, is another smart option.
A comfortable wireless mouse
Apple's track pads are quality-made, but using any sort of track pad extensively can be rough on the wrists. For anyone who uses their MacBook for hours at a time, a wireless mouse is an ergonomic investment.
