Wi-Fi signal can be an issue if your router is too far from you. You'll experience this problem, particularly if you live in a multistorey building with competing Wi-Fi signals.

The good news is there are plenty of ways to extend your router's Wi-Fi range. One such way is through a Wi-Fi range extender, which can echo your Wi-Fi signals to areas that might be "dead zones" otherwise.

Mi Wi-Fi Range Extender Pro is a great Wi-Fi extender that you can use for this purpose. So, here's how you set the Mi Wi-Fi Range Extender Pro up to boost your Wi-Fi speeds.

Mi Wi-Fi Range Extender Pro Setup: What You Need

Before we begin, let's look at what you need to complete the setup.

  1. Mi Home app for Android or iOS.
  2. Mi Wi-Fi Range Extender Pro.
  3. An electrical socket within your current Wi-Fi range.
  4. Bluetooth should be working on your phone.
  5. You need to know your router's current Wi-Fi username and password.

How to Setup the Mi Wi-Fi Range Extender Pro

Once you have these things available, follow these steps to set your Wi-Fi extender up.

  8. On the next screen, you can define where the device is placed. You can tap on Create a new room, select the room from the list, or enter a custom name. Once selected, tap on Next.
  9. Now, you can set a name for your new Wi-Fi network and add the network to your favorites.
  10. Finally, it lets you set the password for your new Wi-Fi network, and now you are done.

Now, test the Wi-Fi network by connecting to it on your phone or PC. If you think the device should be placed somewhere else, you can easily remove it and plug it into another socket. You won't have to set it up all over again.

If you want to change the Wi-Fi settings, go to the Mi Home app and tap your Wi-Fi network under favorites. Here, you can change the network name and password conveniently.

There are a couple of other options that you might want to check out. One is Wi-Fi Roaming, which creates a Wi-Fi network with the same username and password as your original Wi-Fi network. In this way, you won't have to remember new credentials. Your devices will automatically connect to an extended version of your original Wi-Fi network.

You can also hide this new network if you want. You'll have to connect to hidden networks on your devices to make it work, though. And lastly, the app lets you review the connected devices and their IP and MAC addresses.
