First MacBook Pro with speedy M2 chip goes up for preorder June 17
The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro keeps its compact form factor but gains capabilities with the M2 chip.

Preorders for the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro packing the powerful new Apple M2 processor will begin Friday, June 17, two weeks after it was announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
However, there is no word yet on an exact date when the redesigned MacBook Air with M2 will go up for pre-order. All Apple has said so far is that it’ll launch in July.
13-inch MacBook Pro will be the first with M2 chip
The wraps came off the Apple M2 processor at WWDC22. It’s the second in the M-series, and offers an 18% faster CPU, a 35% more powerful GPU and 40% faster Neural Engine than the M1. And the first computer to get it will be the upcoming MacBook Pro.
“The 13-inch MacBook Pro [features] incredible performance, ProRes acceleration, up to 24GB of memory, and up to 20 hours of battery life — making our most portable pro notebook even better,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
Aside from the new chip, the macOS Monterey notebook is a blast from the past. It is one of the last with a Touch Bar, as it’s essentially the same model that was released back in 2020 with an M1 processor. There are none of the design features from the 2021 MacBook Pros, like MagSafe or an HDMI port. But the new Mac laptop does have a Magic keyboard, not an unreliable Butterfly one.
How to order
Buyers can place an order for the 2022 version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 on Apple’s website beginning Friday, June 17, at 5 a.m. PDT. It’ll also be available through the Apple Store app and through Apple Authorized Resellers.
Customers worldwide will start receiving it on Friday, June 24.
Pricing starts at $1,299 and goes up with additional RAM and storage.

While the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the first out of the gate with the M2, quite a few people will surely wait for the MacBook Air with the same processor. It is just 0.44 inches (11.3 millimeters) thick, but there’s room for a 13.6-inch screen, MagSafe and a 1080p webcam.
