Many good universities have emerged in South America that has gained an international reputation. While there is still a long way ahead for the South American universities to outperform those in North America, much has been done to bring them close to or at par with many renowned universities across the globe.     Commonly called Unicamp, the University of Campinas is a notable public research university that was founded in the year 1962. It operates its various academic programs from its main campus as well as satellite campuses spread out across São Paulo. In addition, there are 2 technical high schools under its wing. In total, there are 10 institutes and 12 schools in its academic organization, including the School of Education, School of Physical Education, School of Nursing, School of Agricultural Engineering, Institute of Biology, Institute of Physics Gleb Wataghin, and School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism.

    The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is a member of the 6 Catholic universities in the Chilean Higher Education System. Established in 1888, it is one of the oldest universities in the region and operates from 5 campuses sprawling across Santiago and Villarrica. A string of faculties is part of its academic organization, such as the Faculty of Agronomy & Forest Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, and Faculty of Arts.     Operating from 3 campuses in the country, the Universidad Autónoma de Chile is a private university that was established in the year 1989. The university is known for its diverse faculties and academic departments, including the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Architecture and Construction, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Business and Administration, and Faculty of Education.   5. University of Desarrollo, Chile

Presently, there are 10 faculties in its academic organization, including the Faculty of Business and Economy, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Communications, Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Design, and Faculty of Law. Its MBA Faculty is touted as the best in Latin America so does its Medicine School. It has two campuses, the main campus in Santiago de Chile and the other one in Concepción.
