DigitalOcean 全面漲價
清 RSS reader 的時候才翻到的，DigitalOcean 宣佈漲價：「New DigitalOcean Pricing」，在 Hacker News 上有對另外一篇「公告」也有些討論：「New $4 Droplet and updated pricing」、「DigitalOcean: New $4 Droplet and updated pricing (digitalocean.com)」。
如果就比例來說，VPS 裡漲最多的就是一般性的產品線 Basic Droplets 這組，直接漲了 20%，其他的翻了一下舊的 pricing 頁面，看起來大多在 20% 以下，除了 IPv4 的費用 (這個倒是知道發生什麼事情)。
VPS 的 $5/mo 1GB 競爭算是很激烈的，算是頂標，這次 DigitalOcean 主動漲價，沒意外應該是會有不少人開始規劃搬家？接下來應該看看另外兩家的動作...
看了一下另外兩家最近的情況，Linode 在二月被 Akamai 買走之後目前主要是推出了 Managed Databases 這個服務，看起來速度慢下來不少。(不過 Linode 推新產品的速度本來就不快)
而 Vultr 還是照慣例丟了一堆東西出來，在新的據點開機房，以及一些產品線...
話說回來，查資料的時候發現 DigitalOcean 有 581 人 (2020/12)，Linode 則是 200+，Vultr 則是 75 (2022，engineering only)，看起來 DigitalOcean 的組織頗肥的啊...

DigitalOcean 與 Linode 的比較...
DigitalOcean 因為「Linode vs DigitalOcean, performance benchmarks」這篇上了 Hacker News 熱門文章列表，把本來試用帳號的名額都用完了，現在要測試要自己花錢... XD 原文是測效能 (I/O 速度與 CPU 速度)，我是看其他的部分： 價錢便宜又提供 SSD (看完提供的內容與品質後，居然還可以打趴 Linode，這真是低到不可思議 XD)，控制介面又是自己開發的，難怪會讓 Hacker News 的人熱起來... 計費是 by hour，然後每個月的上限就是表列出來的金額，比起 Linode 是以天計算友善不少... 目前機房的點有點少，只有美東 (New York) 與荷蘭 (Amsterdam)，我開美東的點測試，從台灣過去大約要 200ms，從 Linode 東京過去是 170ms。 可以常見的 Linux 套件 (Debian、Ubuntu、Fedora、ArchLinux、...)，32bits 或是 64bits 都有提供，我是裝 Debian 6.0 64bits 版本，然後直接用 apt 換成…

Vultr 也推出 Kubernetes 服務 (Beta)
看到 Vultr 也打算要推出 Kubernetes 這個產品線了：「Announcing Vultr Kubernetes Engine!」。 這樣加上之前的 Linode 的 Linode Kubernetes Engine (LKE) 與 DigitalOcean 的 DigitalOcean Kubernetes (「DigitalOcean 也推出 Kubernetes 的服務」)，比較知名的幾家 VPS 都推出 K8S 的產品線了。 對於不是 cloud provider 的 VPS provider 來說，直接拿 K8S 整合可以建了一組 mini-AWS 的架構出來，而且因為軟體還算紅，既有的 ecosystem 也可以直接拉進來，不需要另外重新學。不過因為 K8S 發展很快，還是可以常常看到各種踩雷抱怨文... XD 對於使用者來說，如果有一定的量與技術能力，加上想要省錢的話，用這些 VPS 提供的 K8S 服務看起來是個不錯的選擇。 應該找些時間更新之前自己摸索的那些東西了…
