Samsung has just announced that Google Assistant is now available on the Galaxy Watch 4, something that makes perfect sense given the device runs Wear OS.

We’ve known for a while that this release was supposed to happen, especially because the company itself teased Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4, but no further specifics on the ETA have ever been provided.

But the switch from Tizen to Wear OS obviously paved the way for Google Assistant to feel at home on the Galaxy Watch 4, so today’s announcement doesn’t necessarily come as a big surprise.

The official teaser was rolled out last month, and now Samsung says the feature is becoming available for the first users in a series of countries, including the US, Canada, and the UK. The rollout, however, appears to be taking place in stages.

A new Galaxy Watch is on its way

Users who want to get Google Assistant on their Samsung smartwatch need to download the app from the Google Play Store.

“Samsung Electronics and Google jointly built a unified Wear OS platform that creates a seamless connection across Android devices. The platform comes with Google Play, which gives users access to some of the most popular apps and services from Google, including Google Maps, Google Pay, and YouTube Music,” Samsung said today.

“Starting today, Galaxy Watch4 users will also be able to download Google Assistant on their devices gaining access to fast, more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and on-the-go help. With access to both Bixby and Google Assistant, consumers will have access to more advanced voice assistant functionality right from their wrists.”

For what it’s worth, Samsung is already working on the next-generation Galaxy Watch, as a new model is expected to see the daylight in the summer, most likely in August.
