You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know
Presented on May 17, 2022 at 12pm ET
With the increasing popularity of coding bootcamps, people turn to these programs for new and rewarding careers. However, as tech companies hire these recent grads, a clear skills gap exists: Accessibility isn’t part of the bootcamp curriculum. So while we’re out here trying to make the web more accessible, a torrent of new developers are unleashed into the workforce every year, unaware and unprepared.
In celebration of GAAD 2022, “The Outlaw” Jonny James, Senior Accessibility Engineer, will draw from his own experience, challenging our existing paradigm of what it means to be qualified to work in this field and how the gatekeepers of web accessibility could be harming the industry, once referred to as “the business of empathy.”
