This is just an update to help test the servicing pipeline

Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 11 insiders, this time without including any big changes.

The purpose of Windows 11 cumulative update KB5014105 is to help test the servicing pipeline, something that Microsoft regularly does to make sure everything is working as planned.

The update increases the OS build number to 222598.200 for both Dev and Beta users.

“We are starting to roll out Cumulative Update Build 22598.200 (KB5014105). This update does not include anything new and is designed to test our servicing pipeline for builds in the Dev and Beta Channels,” Microsoft says.

What’s new in Windows 11 build 22598

This update is aimed at computers running Windows 11 build 22598, an April 13 release that brought several important changes, including regarding Windows Spotlight.

Microsoft has decided to enable Windows Spotlight by default on some Windows 11 devices as part of this build, with the company claiming it’s running an experiment to see how everything goes in the Windows Insider program.

“We are trying out Windows Spotlight on desktop is on by as the default background for new devices (clean installs using the ISO) and for upgrades where the background the Windows 11 default. We are trying this experience out with a limited number of Windows Insiders at first. We are also trying out displaying 4K desktop backgrounds in Windows Spotlight. We are also trying this experience out with a limited number of Windows Insiders at first,” the company said.

A new Windows 11 build is projected to launch later this week, but right now, it’s not yet clear if the release is supposed to target both the Dev and the Beta channels. In other words, if you plan to change channels, this is the best moment to do it, as once a new build is shipped, such a window would no longer be available.
