Apple getting ready to replace the notch with a punch hole

Apple is planning some pretty big changes on the next iPhone, and while the company doesn’t say a single thing about them, people familiar with the matter have already provided us with an early look at some of them.

Let’s start with the essential information.

Apple will introduce a lineup comprising four different models. That’s right, the 2022 iPhone generation will have the same number of models as the current generation, so nothing new here.

What’s going to be new, however, is the replacement of the iPhone mini.

This is because Apple is killing off the 5.4-inch form factor and is introducing a larger 6.7-inch device that will be sold as iPhone 14 Max. In other words, it’s a Max flavor of the base iPhone, therefore coming with a bigger display.

Enter the Pro models

The iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will continue to use the same display sizes, though this time, they will come with something that Apple users have been dreaming about for many years.

The devices will kill off the notch and introduce a punch-hole display, as Apple is apparently ready to go for this modern approach Samsung has been using for several generations.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will boast a pill-shaped punch hole, with the Face ID components and the front-facing camera to therefore be integrated into the glass. And renderings created by Ian Zelbo and shared on Twitter provide us with a preview of how the whole thing could look when the iPhone 14 launches in September.

Of course, it’s important to remember these are all just renderings, so the iPhone 14 Pro could end up using a different look if Apple has a different idea in mind for its upcoming smartphones.
