F2 (Facebook Financial) is a product group at Facebook focused on building products to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to the world’s financial system to accelerate financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

F2’s Security team drives security initiatives that protect the security and privacy of F2. Our security engineers reveal potential weaknesses and craft creative solutions to eliminate those weaknesses, and are relied upon to provide engineering and product teams with the security expertise necessary to make confident product decisions.

Facebook is hiring a Security Engineering Intern for the Threat Detection & Response (TDR) team within F2. You will work with a dedicated security team focused on building advanced and novel detection mechanisms, performing searches for sophisticated and previously unknown malware, and developing systems to automate remediation. The ideal candidate will share our passion for engineering solutions to detect malicious activity and developing new signatures or methodologies to detect bad activity. This position will begin in Summer 2022.

Security Engineer Intern, Threat Detection & Response (TDR), F2 Responsibilities
Search for gaps in our infrastructure: proactively identify malicious activity that we are not currently able to detect
Analyze logs, packets, and alerts for signs of malicious activity
Create signatures and tools to analyze and detect malicious activity
Build automation for response and remediation of malicious activity
Minimum Qualifications
Pursuing a degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Computer Science or a related field
Enthusiasm for hunting for potential weaknesses and then crafting creative solutions to eliminate them
Solid understanding of common backend, web application and/or mobile security issues
Excellent communication abilities
Familiarity with an interpreted (Python, PHP, Perl, Ruby, etc.) or compiled (Rust, C++, Swift, Kotlin, etc.) programming languages
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Preferred Qualifications
Contributions to the security community are a huge plus (public research, blogging, presentations, bug bounty participation, etc)
