Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) now supports AWS Graviton2-based T4g database (DB) instances for MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL  databases. T4g DB instances offer up to 36% better price performance over comparable current generation x86-based T3 DB instances depending on the workload characteristics.

T4g is the next generation burstable general-purpose DB instance type that provides a baseline level of CPU performance, with the ability to burst CPU usage at any time for as long as required. Based on AWS Graviton2 processors, T4g DB instances offer a balance of compute, memory, and network resources and are ideal for DB workloads with moderate CPU usage that experience temporary spikes in use.

AWS Graviton2 processors are based on 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores and custom silicon designed by AWS for optimized performance and cost. AWS Graviton2 Processors deliver 7x more performance, 4x more compute cores, 5x faster memory, and 2x larger caches versus first-generation AWS Graviton Processors. Additionally, the AWS Graviton2 processors feature always-on fully encrypted DDR4 memory and 50% faster per core encryption performance.

You can launch new T4g DB instances with a single click in the Amazon RDS Management Console or via a single command in the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI). If you want to upgrade your existing Amazon RDS DB instance to T4g, you can do so on the Modify DB Instance page in the Amazon RDS Management Console or via the AWS CLI. Amazon RDS T4g DB instances are supported on MySQL version 8.0.25 and higher, MariaDB version 10.4.18 and higher, and PostgreSQL version 12.5 and higher. For more details, refer to the Amazon RDS User Guide.

Amazon RDS T4g DB instances are available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon, San Francisco), Canada (Central), South America (Sao Paulo), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Seoul), and Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Stockholm) regions. They are offered in 6 sizes, providing up to 8 vCPUs and 32 GiB of memory.

For complete information on pricing and regional availability, please refer to the Amazon RDS pricing page. Launch new Graviton2-based DB instances for Amazon RDS for MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL in the Amazon RDS Management Console or using the AWS CLI today.
