It gets insane because y'all want different stuff, and if we don't discuss your specific use case, there are complaints. Truth be told, we aim to cover most of the market needs with as few suggestions as possible
One thing I have always wondered with motherboards, how come nothing better has come along to connect a case to a mother board, I seriously expected now we would have perhaps just one cable that connects all the case ports and buttons to the motherboard
Everyone is a competitor and they don't want to get together to create a standard that would invalidate their last 5 years of products. You end up with a solution that while unified is what no-one wants today, but would be good long term. It's all short sighted
Beyond that, some cases have LEDs for power and HDD, others do not. Some motherboards have those connections, others do not. It's always a bit of give and take.
