Local Eve -UI|UX Case Study

“Making Local Events Booking Experience a charm”

Local eve Introduction Poster Illustration by

Hi, I am Abhishek and I have worked as an Associate IT Consultant with ITC Infotech for about 1.8 yrs and now I am on my journey of being a designer.

This is my second article in a row.

For those who don’t know me — I have worked on the technologies such as ReactJs, Firebase, Redux, Redux-persist, etc. Over the period I have developed an interest in designing as well and also completed Google’s Course-1 of Google UX Design Certificate“Foundation of User Experience (UX) Design” on Coursera, and immensely thankful to

& for such a good course on UX.✨😊✨

Searching & Booking for a “Local Event” happening around in your city

The focus of our app is to solve the hurdles people are facing while searching and booking for the Local Events happening in their respective cities.

The User Front app is focused on giving a smooth experience while booking Tickets for the above exciting events with a variety of events to choose from according to one’s personal recommendations like particular category, time,&location preferences, etc.

The problem we are aiming

The target users of the Local eve App have some issues while searching for Local Events and then getting their tickets booked for the particular Local Event happening around.
They are having a hard time enjoying a great Local event happening around them.

Our Goal

Here Our Goal is to provide them with an app where instead of having a hard time spending on searching for events and going through the cumbersome process of booking tickets, they enjoy and could avail themselves of the benefits of an easy booking experience.

About

Hi, myself Abhishek Ganotra. I am on my journey of becoming a designer and its been 2.5–3.5 months in this journey.
My role in this project as a UX designer is to take full ownership of this app

The UX approach that I followed during the process is a user-centered approach also known as the Lean UX approach. It consists of three phases i.e

  1. Think This is the first phase where different ideas are welcomed and brainstormed based on market research, customer feedback, etc.
  2. Make— This is the second phase where the designers and developers come together to build that solution that was shortlisted in the first phase.
  3. Check — This is the last phase where the product prototype is tested with an actual audience and the user feedback is collected and again the whole approach is run again till the user is satisfied.

User Persona’s

We have interviewed 5 people having different professions and with varied interests, this being said but one thing stays common is that every one of them likes to enjoy the Local Events happening around in the city. Moreover, every one of them has a different choice or recommendation for the event process which we tried to cater to through these interviews.

Moreover, these interviews were held in the form of a call with a timeline of 5–10 mins before the Testing phase takes place.

User Journey Map

In order to have some deeper understandings and clear thoughts,we designed the user journey map that tells us what phases our user persona goes through or seldom has to face.

Problem Statement & Hypothesis

The most crucial part of User Experience is where we try to understand the difficulties our user is going through and come up with a solution-fit for that.

So we made sure with the help of some common questions that we usually ask before starting anything new. These questions are as follows:

  1. What is the purpose?
  2. Who is going to participate?
  3. When will it take place?
  4. Where will it take place?
  5. Why are we doing this?

Then we created the Hypothesis which we will be testing after the Usability Testing Plan.

Crazy 8's

It is a very popular design sprint method. It‘s a fast sketching technique where one person has to come up with some 8 ideas in freaking 8 minutes. It's a really good method as it helps one’s ability to evolve ideas in a short period of time.

We tried this technique and came up with the following idea

Competitive Analysis

The other important aspect of building a design or Experience is to have an in-depth analysis of what already is being done in the market and how’s everyone taking that into consideration.

The two important questions that play part in the Competitive Analysis are

  1. What are the current crunch points?
  2. What are the existing Features users are happy with?

So, we tried the above questions and made a chart of each competitor with these two questions in the different phases that a user goes through while on his/her journey of Searching and Booking Local Events.

User Flow Chart of Ticket Booking in general

After going through hefty research and investigation, I got the basic gist of how the user flow should appear in the Local Eve app. There might be some changes in the final prototype after the Usability testing plan.

Here is the User Flow chart which appears like this

Storyboard

A storyboard in UX is something that tries to tell the story of how’s the product is being acted upon. It uses the visual description of the events or the frames that takes place during the product phases.

In order to have a pictorial representation of that journey this storyboard was designed

Wireframes

A wireframe is a layout of the content that takes care of the user's needs and the ups and downs that were described during the user journey.

We did the digital wireframing and came up with the wireframes as follows

Usability Testing Plan

As it's quite clear from the name it's a plan of recording the place, project history, people’s participating in them, etc. for the low fidelity prototype that we have prepared.

Affinity Mapping

Affinity Mapping is the process of organizing and grouping the feedbacks into subgroups of categories.

Once all the Usability testing sessions were completed we executed the process of Affinity Mapping in order to find some common patterns.

Insights Collected

After the tiring process of grouping all those feedbacks now the task is to jot down the summary of the information retrieved i.e insights.

As we can see six groups were made

  1. Calendar Events — From selecting dates and times and filtering data on the basis of it.
  2. Ticket Journey — From selecting to adding the tickets to the bucket.
  3. Payment Journey — From selecting the mode of payment to the final bill.
  4. Map Navigation — From navigating the events with their respective distance.
  5. Customer Support — From generating a ticket to finally getting the ticket being resolved.
  6. Miscellaneous — A category consisting of some advanced options that can not be categorized into a particular category.

Accessible & Inclusive Design

Accessible Design means that the product is usable by everyone while on the other hand Inclusive Design means learning from a diverse group and adding a different range of perspectives from different diversities.

So, I tried to do that by adding the following features as I wanted the design to be accessible as well as inclusive.

In the end, I would also like to thank

for providing such a platform to showcase my talent.😊

Thank you so much for reaching the end of the Case Study. It really means a lot.✨😊✨
