I've been a grump about property-based testing because I bought into the conclusion of Hamlet&Taylor's 1990 "Partition testing does not inspire confidence", http://site.uottawa.ca/~gvj/papers/Software%20Engineering%20IEEE%20Transactions%20on%201990%20Hamlet.pdf…

Have any property-testing people engaged with that argument? It's time for my mind to be changed.

Just reading the abstract it seems the paper provides an argument FOR Property-based Testing since random sampling is a major part of it.

Their simulation results were that dividing the input space into partitions and then sampling within those partitions didn't do better than sampling within the entire input space, *unless*...

... the partitions were small (hard to hit randomly) and dense (most values within a partition cause an error).

One interpretation (theirs, the more dramatic one) is: give up on partitions.
