PS5 users can try out new PS5 features before they drop, with the first-ever beta program for the console. With the beta program, users will be able to test out the latest PS5 features before they're made public to everybody else.

Sony Launches the First-Ever Beta Program for PS5

In an official blog post, Sony has announced it is launching the first-ever beta testing program for the PS5. Starting June 17, PS5 users can sign up to Sony's official beta testing program try out new features for the next “major system update”. In the blog, Sony explains that this update is coming later in 2021.

Before fans get too excited, it's worth bearing in mind that beta testers will need to send Sony feedback on the software and features. The sign-up page for the beta also highlights that the software will be a beta version, and warns users of potential problems.

Xbox users can sign up for a similar program called the Xbox Insider Program. This program also allows users to test new features and updates in exchange for feedback. Beta testing is a very common occurrence, especially in the world of gaming.

Although the beta program is a first for the PS5, Sony has offered beta tests for its consoles before. Sony ran a similar software beta program for the PS4 back in 2015. It seems that Sony wants to re-visit beta testing to get more user feedback.

How To Sign Up for the PS5 Beta Program

If you're interested in signing up for a chance to join the PS5 beta program, you can sign up through a dedicated page on Sony’s website. Users who want to sign up for the beta program need to meet certain criteria in order to be invited.

Users must 18 years or older and living in the U.S., Canada, Japan, the U.K., Germany, or France. When signing up, you also need a valid PSN account linked to your current email address, and it must be in good standing. And there is the condition of needing to actually send Sony feedback as well.

Just to make it clear, signing up for the program does not guarantee acceptance. Sony will send out invitations to users it selects for the program. Unfortunately, Sony did not mention when it would be sending out invitations, so you best keep an eye on your inbox.

As with all beta software, there is a high risk of experience bugs, errors, and incomplete features. These bugs could range from minor problems, to errors that crash your console. MUO does not recommend installing the software without the proper consideration.

Sony Wants to Hear Feedback on PS5 Features

With the launch of the first-ever beta program for the PS5, it seems clear that Sony wants to get feedback on potential new features from users. Sony clearly takes it's users very seriously and wants to improve the game-playing experience as much as possible.
