S 语言的出现，永久性地改变了人们分析数据，可视化数据和操纵数据 (manipulate) 的方式。
但是 S 语言的开放者坚持认为统计并不是 S 语言自身的一部分，S 是一个用于数据分析和作图的计算语言和环境。
