And there’s more bad news in terms of software support
We’ve known for a while that LG has been struggling in the mobile market, and while the company has always remained tight-lipped in this regard, it looks like the time to state the obvious has come.
In other words, LG is getting ready to admit its failure to survive in the mobile market, with an announcement in this regard expected to be released on April 5.
However, expect LG to use some carefully selected words, especially because giving up on mobile devices and abandoning its projects in this regard isn’t an easy job given the mobile unit counts some 4,000 employees.
But according to mobile tipster @FrontTron, LG is trying to promise a smooth transition for customers, with the company to guarantee continued software support for those owning one of its devices.
In other words, your LG is supposed to continue receiving updates according to the original schedule, even if LG gives up on releasing new devices.
The software struggle
But the same source explains that LG may not actually be able to hold onto its software promise, so you’d better not hold your breath for too many software updates after the announcement goes live next week.
But without a doubt, LG giving up on mobile phones is the living proof that the company needs to focus on other categories of products, including TVs and other consumer devices.
It’s believed many of the employees currently part of the mobile unit would be transferred to other divisions, and this is something that makes sense in the long term, though it remains to be seen if the company would also announce any layoffs or not.
For the time being, keep in mind the whole thing is just a rumor, but we should hear everything about it in just a few days.
