International Women’s Day is all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It reminds us how much work we have left to do and calls us all to play a part in accelerating gender parity.

Did you know that only 17% of the tech workforce is female — and less than 10% are in leadership positions? With the significant role technology plays in all of our lives, we need more of us to be active creators and help shape what tech can and should look like in the future.

Today provides a perfect opportunity for us all to get involved in forging equality in the workplace. It’s a time for us to reinforce our commitment to building an inclusive world.

Although International Women’s Day falls on one day of the year, ACG is committed to a continuous focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion all year round. Our founders Sam Kroonenburg and Ryan Kroonenburg have always been big believers in creating a level playing field for everyone in life — this is why they founded ACG. Here we believe that the greatest gift you can give is education as it enables opportunity and success. That’s why Sam and Ryan set out to democratize education when they built A Cloud Guru. 

At ACG we want to level the playing field for women by offering them appealing prospects that allow them to achieve remarkable successes in their careers. Additionally, we want to create an environment that celebrates the work and achievements of women so that they go on to inspire others to achieve their full potential.

Our aim is to make cloud learning accessible to everyone. We want to break through the “bro” culture that the tech industry is known for and open doors through our product and platform to give women in our communities new opportunities.

To celebrate IWD this year, we encouraged all ACG employees to get involved in the #choosetochallengeInternational Women’s Day challenge. We asked for those who want to forge a gender-neutral world, maintain a gender-equal mindset, challenge gender stereotypes, and bias, forge positive visibility of women and celebrate women’s achievements, to raise their hands high and show solidarity!

As well as the #choosetochallenge campaign we have organized an internal fireside chat with our inspiring Chief People Officer Lorraine Vargas Townsend. The chat will be hosted by another one of our inspiring female leaders Sara Zabukovec, Chief of Staff. 

The theme for the fireside chat is “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” This theme celebrates the tremendous efforts of women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future.

COVID-19 has impacted women and girls in profound ways, amplifying the inequalities they face every day. Women are losing work at a faster rate than men. Women entered this pandemic facing more precarious employment with higher rates of casual employment, lower pay, and higher levels of underemployment.

It is fundamental that diverse women’s voices and experiences are central to national and global recovery plans. A key contributor to a more equal COVID-19 world is increasing women’s access to leadership roles. Unfortunately, women still face significant cultural, socio-economic, and political barriers to accessing leadership. You can help by donating to a registered charity or nonprofit that works for the advancement of women and girls here.
