When the GDPR came into effect in 2018, it caused some disruption among legal and IT people. Data protection has always been highly valued in Germany, but with millions at stake due to fines, you certainly don't want to take any risks.
Two years into the GDPR, it is time for a look back. Are we "German engineering" too much into the GDPR? Can small companies even keep up? When Stefan was invited earlier this year to present at the Harvard Web Working Group, he decided to research the origins of the GDPR, to be able to explain the GRPR from a historical German and European perspective. (His wife is a history teacher, which might have had an influence.)
Since his presentation was very well-received, we decided to repeat it at The Online PHP Conference in January 2021. We have scheduled it for Wednesday afternoon to make it easier for international attendees to participate.
