A tiny "USB stick" form-factor development board for multiprotocol RF tinkering!

Taking a break for Xmas. Back first week in Jan

PLEASE DO NOT SEND MESSAGES ON TINDIE, EMAIL US AT [email protected] INSTEAD. We will be monitoring this over the holidays but response times will be slower.

If you'd like to get a notification when we're back, sign up to the wait list on the product page.

We would like to wish all members of the Tindie community happy holidays!

Stock Status: Plenty of boards in stock and dispatching all new orders in 2-3 days (plain and simple: dropping your package off at the post box and sending you the tracking number).

Shipping Disclaimer: Due to COVID-19, Black Friday/Cyber Monday and the usual seasonal Xmas traffic all combined, the global postal system has been adversely effected resulting in delivery times to ALL destinations, i.e. internationally (all of North America, the Near and Far East, as all of Europe, e.g. The Netherlands, France, Spain, etc.) but also to the UK. Packages that would normally take a few days to be delivered are now taking MANY WEEKS in certain countries. PostNL is completely overwhelmed (with news articles written about it), almost all packages not showing any tracking activity for weeks once they arrive in the Netherlands!

Please understand that while I will dispatch your orders as quickly as I can, I have no control or influence over either Royal Mail or your local postal service. Most packages dropped off in the last couple of weeks have been stuck at "Sender preparing item" state for a good few days as that is what the tracker will show before Royal Mail scans them for the first time. This does not mean that I haven't dispatched your order, just that Royal Mail has not scanned them yet.

International orders placed now with the standard postal services most likely will not arrive before Christmas. If you need expedited/courier shipping, I am happy to arrange this at cost. Please send an email to [email protected].

Once your order is dispatched I cannot cancel it nor know exactly where the package is even if it is a tracked/signed-for delivery. The information you see on your tracking number is exactly the same that we have access to.

IF YOU'VE CHOSEN THE STANDARD SHIPPING OPTION AND YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO WAIT, PLEASE EMAIL US TO CANCEL YOUR ORDER BEFORE IT IS DISPATCHED OR WAIT UNTIL POSTAL SERVICES RETURN BACK TO NORMAL TO PLACE YOUR ORDER

Need help? Please email [email protected] for any issues with shipping or technical support. A direct email is the fastest way for me to get back to you as I have Zendesk set up and can track support tickets that way. Tindie messaging is not great and very difficult to keep track of, hence much slower response times.

zig-a-zig-ah! (zzh, for short) is the original "USB stick" form-factor development board for TI's new generation CC2652R chips.

It features:

  • TI CC2652R 2.4 GHz multi-protocol wireless microcontroller targeting Thread, Zigbee, Bluetooth 5 Low Energy, IEEE 802.15.4g, IPv6-enabled smart objects (6LoWPAN) and proprietary systems
  • Communicates with the host computer via the common CH340 USB-UART bridge, no manual driver installation needed in most cases (Windows and Linux)
  • Self-programming via the TI CC-series serial bootloader. As long as it is not explicitly disabled in code, no external programmer needed! Pushbutton on the default pin to trigger this mode
  • cJTAG debug header, in case you disable BSL by accident or want a proper debug interface
  • SMA antenna port for an external antenna of your choice
  • General purpose LED

Think of it as an upgrade to the ubiquitous CC2531 USB Sticks commonly used for Zigbee tinkering. CC2652 has a much beefier processor, more memory and a sane free compiler that should enable easier development compared to the old 8051 based CC2530/1 devices.

It is designed to fit in a tiny Gōng mó "USB Shell" and looks a bit like this when paired with your favourite SBC:

zzh connected to a Raspberry Pi

A portion of each sale will be donated to @Koenkk to support his work on Zigbee2mqtt and the public firmware images used by zzh and many other projects.

What is included?

Each order contains a fully assembled and tested PCBA along with a plastic enclosure and a small antenna. An optional debug adapter kit of parts (requires assembly) can also be purchased. Please refer to the listing photos.

Important Note

Please keep in mind that zzh is a general purpose development board. It is shipped with a simple test program that just blinks the LED on and off (with no radio functionality) to verify that the MCU is running. You will need to program it before it does anything meaningful. Given the application dependent nature of this board, limited after-sales support can be provided (For example: we can help you program this board but can't fix your Zigbee network range issues or offer specific software support).

Documentation and Design Files

Documentation and a "User Manual" for zzh can be found on the project page and design files in the Github repository.
