Why 23% of Companies Still Held Holiday Parties This Year

Many companies opted to cancel their annual holiday party this year, others went virtual, and a few decided to keep celebrating in person

23%: That’s the share of U.S. companies hosting holiday parties in 2020, down from 76% in 2019, according to and October survey conducted by consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Nearly three out of four of the companies that said they would host a gathering this year planned to do so virtually.

Which leaves us asking: Which are the handful of companies throwing in-person parties? The survey report doesn’t say, but many of those doing so told surveyors they are gathering outdoors, limiting attendees, and requiring masks and social distancing. We can only hope that any companies not taking those kinds of precautions are small family businesses based out of a single household.

How did your company celebrate the holidays?
