1997 年 9 月 30 日，黑岛工作室开发的著名核战末日游戏《辐射》正式发售。在发布二十周年之际，该游戏在 Steam 上限时免费，只持续一天，认领时间截止太平洋时间 11:59PM。《辐射》在游戏发展史上占有重要地位，被众多媒体列入史上最佳游戏之列。《辐射》至今共推出 3 部正传续集，是游戏行业最重要的角色扮演游戏品牌之一，但开发商黑岛已经倒闭，后续的《辐射 3》和《辐射 4》都由 Bethesda 开发，由前黑岛成员组建的 Obsidian Entertainment 开发了外传性质的《辐射新维加斯》。
